The title for our designed AICLE unit is Scott Fitzgerald and The Roaring 20's. The main information for its description is:

- Level: Bachillerato (Hisg School)
- Grade: 1st or 2nd (according to the school organization)
Considering that
North American Literature (with the American tale in late 19’s and early 20’s
narrators) is included in Literatura
Universal curriculum, we will combine both contents reading and working
with one tale of a representative north American writer in the 20th
century: F. Scott Fitzgerald. We will also learn about the Roaring 20’s and its
presence in Fitzgerald’s stories.
The contents will be:
- -The Roaring 20’s: history, society, music and culture.
- - F. Scott Fitzgerald and his tale Winter Dreams.
After developing the unit, the student will be able to:
- Describe some of the main elements from “Roaring 1920’s”era in U.S. history (music, culture and societal values).
- Identify the key facts/events from the biography of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life.
- Explore the key idea of status.
- Investigate and explain about the American Dream concept.
- Think about his/her dreams in the future.
- Predict story development.
- Learn vocabulary by context.
- Read a short story titled Winter Dreams.
- Identify the protagonist, antagonist, minor characters in literary works.
- Summarize his/her learning in a final project.
- Compare and look for common traits between the tale Winter Dreams and the trailer of movie The Great Gatsby.

The tasks have been designed considering reception and production. These are those that student will develop during the unit.

- Interpreting images and music from the Roaring 20’s.
- Elaborating a graphic organizer after reading an article and watching a video about the 20’s era (American Dream, included).
- Elaborating a time line about Scott Fitzgerald.
- Reading the summary about the story Winter Dreams.
- Filling a chart and predicting vocabulary and story.
- Watching a movie and comparing characters.
- Filling a graph with priorities for his/her Dreaming Life.
- Presenting his/her graph and discuss with the rest of the class, using opinion expressions.
- After reading the tale, in groups of 4, the students will choose one of this projects:
- Designing a poster including images and words that summarize The 20’s, Fitzgerald and the tale.
- Create a comic based on the tale, using Pixton
- You are one of the 2 main characters of the tale. Make a presentation using Powtoon.
- Write your own version of the tale using Storybird.
- Record yourself using Vocaroo with 15 questions that you will make to Mr. F. Scott Fitzgerald in an interview (ask about the tale, the characters, the 20’s, his life…).
- Their own proposal that should be approved by the teacher.
Methodology and sessions
Methodology will be active and participatory,
combining individual work with activities in pairs, in groups and the whole
class.
- Session 1: The Roaring 20’s and his/her dreams.
- Session 2: Group discussion about his/her aspiration rating (dreams), F. Scott Fitzgerald (reading information and timeline)
- Session 3: Summary and presentation of Winter Dreams, predicting story and vocabulary.
- Session 4 and 5: Vocabulary work (worksheets) and reading the tale.
- Session 6: Finishing the reading, vocabulary review (quizlett and Kahoot) and star working on his/her project.
- Session 7: finishing the project.
- Session 8: watching the movie “The Great Gatsby” and fill a chart with common traits between the tale and the movie.

In order to evaluate if the students have reach the objectives, we will consider the following criteria.
- To be able to summarize and recognize some aspects of the 20’s.
- To present and discuss about the American Dream concept.
- To identify the main facts in F. Scot Fitzgerald.
- To understand the main facts and the characters traits in the story in Winter Dreams.
- To recognize the list of vocabulary.
- To find similarities between 2 F. Scott Fitzgerald narrations.
